"Around the year 2003, I began making paintings which departed from the legible subject imagery with which my work had previously been identified.This allowed for an enhancement of the painting in the painting without sacrificing the gravitational grounding of orientation, as well as atmospheric light and space as attributes of a credible world, beyond the abstract one."
